Why vision / dream board is important?
You would have seen top organisations schedule time to let their leaders / team members to build the vision board for the new year. If this is what is being practiced, there must be a good reason why they do it.
Vision / dream board is a tool that can be used for manifestation. Manifestation concept is being introduced by the world’s most influential thought leaders like Deepak Chopra, Oprah, T Harv Ekar. If you want to have more money, you must be able to manifest the thought of being rich. According to Psychology Today, mental practices (like visualization) can increase motivation, confidence, and even motor performance. In fact, in one study, researchers found that, in athletes, visualization was almost as effective as physical practice.
All things are created at least twice, first in the mind and second in the real world. If you want to build a house, you must first know what type of house you need to build before you can have it physically. If you do not know what house you need, you won’t have the construction plan hence, the house cannot exist physically.
Same goes to wealth creation, you cannot get what you cannot imagine. If you want a luxurious car and you don’t even decide what type of car you are getting, you won’t have that car even you have the money. You must first know how much money you want, tie it with feeling, then you can get it if you action on it.
This is why vision / dream board is needed. In the new year, you decide what you want to do for the new year. You envisage what happens at the end of the year. You then translate your thoughts in mind into pictures and paste them into your vision / dream board.
To make it more systematic, you can divide your yearly vision into few priorities in life, e.g. family goals, health goals, wealth goals, career or business goals. Below are some examples:-
- Family goals: spend 1 hour more with family members per week, going for an oversea trip in 2022
- Health goals: slimmer body with BMI of 20, exercise 3 times a week
- Wealth goals: save and invest RM 5,000 a month, grow the networth RM 100,000 more.
- Career goals: promote to the next level, help the company to generate 20% more profit
The key is to be specific on each goal, have numbers attached to each goal. You can write, draw, cut the pictures from magazines or print out. Make your vision board as informative and as colourful as possible so that you enjoy seeing it every day. If you are having your physical vision / dream board, you can have it hanging at a place that you are seeing everyday. This will remind you what you want at the end of the year. Your feeling towards the goals will grow day by day.
It’s not magic and it is not something that happens overnight. To make your dreams come true, we have to set our intention and believe that it will become a reality. Forming vision board can help this. However, there is still a missing link, we need to have actions on the dream. Hanging the vision board hopefully will help us remember our goals and work on it every day. If you need clearer steps, check out the article above to understand the steps.
Try it out and you shall see the magic!
